Ideal Christian Home

EPH. 5:21- 6:4

Introduction

The home is the foundation of everything in the society. If Satan by his cunning schemes, can weaken or destroy the home and the family structure, the rest of our society will fall like dominos. The homes are the base of what happens in the society. Societal activities are a reflection of what happens in the home. For God’s agenda for the world to come to pass he start by building the home.

God’s passion for the home is everlasting. In God’s creation agenda, he gave special consideration to the home. After creating man, God felt that man would not be able to fulfill his destiny without the home. So he set up a home for him.

Since the creation of the first home, God daily visit their home because he wants to be involved in their affairs. Even when the first home failed God, his passion and interest in the home did not reduce. God is always happy when he sees a home that stands for him. When the home stands, every other thing will have something to stand on. Christian home is a symbol of heaven where the glory of God radiates.

There are homes in the bible that stands and there are homes that don’t stand.

The carelessness of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3 gave Devil a room in their home. God chose Abraham as his special friend and would not keep any secret from him because he was able to raise his home for him. Gen 18:17-18The homes of Isaac crumbled because there was no unity. Gen. 27:5&6. Eli’s home failed God and the purpose of God for them was jeopardized – 1 Samuel 2:30. David was another example of a man who succeeded publicly but failed in the home. Samuel was another Pastor that can be proud of but failed in the home – 1 Samuel 8:1 – 5.

Your success in life is not authentic when it’s not reflecting in your home. Moses would have died without fulfilling God’s purpose if not that he had a solid home. Joshua was able to control the people when was able to control his home. Joshua 24:15. Deborah had a unique ministry with a balanced home. Judges 4:4. Manoah and his wife were able to see the fulfillment of God’s promises because of the unity in their home – Judges 13:1 – 25. Philip has 4 daughters who prophesied. Acts 21:9. Your Christian faith will not be balanced if it’s not reflecting in your home.

Characteristics of an Ideal Christian home.

Every member of the family is born again – John 3:3-5, Luke 19:9.

It is not yet an ideal Christian home if there is a member of the family who has not given his life to Jesus irrespective of his age or status. The word Christian means followers of Christ. To have a Christian home means every member of the family have an encounter with Jesus, they have the mind of Christ, and they are filled with the spirit of Christ, and the word of Christ dwell in them richly. So if you want your home to be an ideal Christian home, every soul in that home must be won for Jesus.

There is a conducive atmosphere for family members to grow in the knowledge of God – 2 Peter 3:18; Colossians 1:10; Philippians 1:9.

It is one thing to be born, it is another thing to grow properly. Life without proper growth is not a healthy life. So to have an ideal Christian home, there must be a conducive atmosphere for every member of the family to grow in the knowledge of God.

Unity of purpose – Ephesians 4:3; 1 Peter 3:8

In an ideal Christian home, unity plays a major role. God is always present where there is a unity of purpose. The family is tied with a bond of peace. They are in one accord and any time the bond is in one accord, it creates room for the more of God. It is generally accepted that united we stand and divided we fall. Even Jesus said any kingdom divided against itself will not stand which shows that any home divided will not stand. God wants the home to be united so it is not a Christian home until there is a unity of purpose and the main purpose is to do God’s will.

Faithfulness to God and one another – 1 Samuel 26:23; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Proverb 28:20; Luke 16:11; 1 Corinthians 4:2.

Faithfulness is an attribute of God and should be found in any place and in the life of everyone who is born of God. If you are truly born of God, you should carry his nature. In an ideal Christian home, faithfulness is one inevitable pillar. You must be faithful to God in everything, knowing fully well that God sees everything, you must also be faithful to your spouse and family members. Let your yes be yes and let your no be no since you know that all liars will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Where genuine love and submission reigns – Ephesians 5:21-25

God is love and where there is love, there is God. An ideal Christian home is a home where Jesus reigns and wherever He reigns there is love. The husband is to love his wife the way Jesus loves the church that He gave his life for her. He is to love his wife the way he loves himself, which shows that whatever is good for him is good for his wife and whatever he felt is not good for him is not good for his wife. The wife should submit to her husband the way she will want to submit to God in all things. If we are truly followers of Christ. Our home should radiate the love of Christ.

Godly discipline – Ephesians 6:4; Proverb 12:1; Proverb 13:24.

Discipline is vital in an ideal Christian home. Throughout the scripture, we are encouraged to embrace discipline because it’s an attribute of godly people. The parent in the house should embrace self-discipline and inculcate discipline in the heart of their children. Discipline is the practice of training people to obey rules and order and punish them if they do not.

Concept of togetherness – Colossians 3:14; Psalm 133:1.

One of the attributes of an ideal Christian home is that they do things together. They prayed together, live together, and do things together in the love of God.

Understanding – 1 Peter 3:7; Proverb 4:5-7; 24:3.

Through wisdom is a house built and by understanding it is established. So for a home to stand for Christ, there must be understanding.

Pray against the attack of the enemy on your family, pray against the plan of strategies of the Devil. Pray for yourselves and that the blessing and grace of God will overshadow the family, pray against sickness and untimely death, pray against every alters standing contrary to the will of God for your family. As a Christian home, spiritual warfare is mandatory.

Walk in the spirit – Gal. 5:16-17

God is spirit and for a home to stand for God the members of that home must walk in the spirit. Each member must be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and allow the Holy Spirit to control the home through God’s organizational structures of the father as the head of the home, the mother as his helper, and the children following the order in obedience and honor.

Do all things together as couples, be united together with Christ – Eccl. 4:9-11

In an ideal Christian home, things are done together as couples, they are united together with Christ. They are of one mind, one faith, and one spirit, the home stands in unity

Be ready to compromise with your spouse (except on thing against the will of God) – Phil 2:3

Compromise is a serious issue in the home. You must be ready to adapt, adopt your spouse’s side, and come down to the level of the family members so you can bring them to the same level in faith. But don’t join them to do things against God’s will.

Conclusion

When we build our home according to Jesus’ standard it will speak volumes of God’s goodness and glory and propagate the gospel of Christ.
