Every child of God is born to be a wonder to the world. Being a child of God exposes you to some levels of supernatural experiences. One vital tool that every believer has to demonstrate the supernatural is the name of Jesus. In Isaiah 8:8, the prophet said “I and the children that the Lord has given me are for signs and wonders” and to be “a sign and wonder” in your generation, you must carry Jesus everywhere you go.
Jesus himself said in Mark16:17-18 that, “and this signs shall follow those who believe” which shows that if you believe you are entitled to signs and wonders. And the signs are “…in my name, they will cast out devils.” They shall speak with new tongue, they shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hand on the sick and they shall recover”
The name of Jesus is filled with signs and wonders.
Engaging the name of Jesus is one way to evoke signs and wonders in your life. There is healing, protection and blessing in the name. The name open doors John14:12. When you engage the name against the operation of the enemy, the anointing goes forth to fight for you.
The name guarantees peace in time of trouble, with faith in the name of Jesus, there is a change of story for you. Your depth of understanding in the name of Jesus is the key to experiencing signs and wonders
The name gives you access to the father.
In John14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth and life, no man cometh to the father but by me” Everyone who has to approach God must call on the name of Jesus. This name is the key that open doors to the heart of God. This name evokes divine presence in the affairs of men. When the name is mentioned heaven is alerted, you get divine responds.
The name gives you an open check
‘’And whatsoever you ask in my name, that will I do, that the farther may be glorified in the son” – John 14:13. Through the name of Jesu, you are privilege to ask for anything and your answer is guaranteed. Through the name, there is no limit to our request before the Lord. All you need to do is to keep asking in the name of Jesus until your joy is full.
The name gives you salvation
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved – Acts 4:12.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved – Romans 10:13.
Only through the name of Jesus can one receives salvation. No other name guarantee salvation. It is not about religion, salvation does not come by calling the name of any angel or any prophet irrespective of how strong the prophet may be.
That someone did exploit for God does not guarantee salvation through his name. This does not mean that we can’t recognize their exploit by calling God their God and use them as appoint of reference, that if God has done it for them he will do it for us too. But salvation does not come in any other name but Jesus and Jesus alone.
Signs and wonders are done through the name.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Jesus has promised that we would be able to do many signs and wonders in his name. He said we will cast out devils in his name, which shows that when the name of Jesus is mentioned, demons are not allowed to stay in that environment. The seventy disciple confirmed this in Luke 10:17 as they returned with joy saying; Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
Paul in Acts 16:18 commanded the spirit of divination to come out of a lady in the name of Jesus and the spirit came out immediately. So at the mention of the name of Jesus, the devil is ordered and can’t resist the order.
Through the name of Jesus, we will speak with new tongue. This means that whatever we say in his name carries more weight. Whatever we lose on earth will be loosed in heaven and whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven (Matthew 18:18). Our word becomes the word of a king and it carries power (Ecclesiastes. 8:4). Also, whenever we decree anything, it shall be established (Job 22:28).
Through the name of Jesus, we are permitted to take up serpents and drink deadly things without any hurt. Which means we can confront dangerous things and difficult challenges and survive them. Isaiah 54:17 says, “no weapon formed against us shall prosper…” In 1 Samuel 17, David confronted Goliath in the name of the Lord and was able to bring him down. The name of Jesus is an effective weapon to those who are bold enough to use it – an assurance of victory.
Through the name of Jesus, we are permitted to lay hands on the sick and they will experience recovery. In Acts 3:6-8, Peter was able to lay his hand on the lame man in the name of Jesus and he recovered immediately. In James 5:14-15, the bible commands us to pray for the sick in the name of the Lord and they shall recover. These, and many signs happen at the mention of the name of Jesus.
The name gives you justification.
Everyman is a condemned sinner until he had an encounter with Jesus. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” But we are justified through Jesus – Titus 3:7. So, we receive our justification through the name of Jesus.
Why is the name ineffective in the life of some believers?
1. Calling the name in vain
In Exodus 20:7, the Lord emphatically command the Israelites not to call his name in vain that whoever does that will be guilty. Many people are misusing the name of the Lord today and because of this, it’s not working for them. Many Christians joke with diverse things, including the name of Jesus. The sin of undue familiarity with the spiritual things is becoming so rampart in today’s church and this makes the name of Jesus ineffective among us. If we want it to work, then we must place value on it in order not to misuse it.
2. Using the name for works of inequity
In Matthew 7:22-23, Jesus said, many will say to me: Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly I never knew them, go away from me you workers of iniquity.
Many people now carry out the evil in their heart using the name of Jesus. People now pray against their neighbours just because of envy and stripe using the name of Jesus. James 4:3 says when you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on year pleasures. The name of Jesus will not work for those who want to use it against biblical standards
3. Lack of relationship with God
How do you want to use the name of someone you don’t know and you are not in any relationship with and expect the name to work for you? In Acts 19:13-16, we saw the sons of Sceva trying to cast out demons in the name of Jesus, even when they did not have any relationship with Jesus and the evil spirit answered them one day, ”Jesus I know and I know Paul, who are you? The rest of the story is not palatable for them, so when you don’t have a cordial relationship with Jesus, his name might not work for you.
4. Doubt and unbelief
One other reasons why the name of Jesus becomes ineffective in the mouth of many people is due to doubt and unbelief. Jesus said that whatever you ask in my name shall be done to you. However, don’t forget that the same Jesus in Mark 11:24 said, “whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have receive it and it will be yours, which shows that it you don’t believe it will not be yours. In Mark 9:14-22, the disciples were faced with a major task of healing a demon possessed by a boy. But they were unable to cast the demon out and it was becoming an embarrassment for them. When Jesus saw the situation, he told them that the reason for their inability is unbelieve. So it takes faith to enjoy the effect of the name of Jesus.
The name of Jesus is still very much active and effective. There is power in the name. it is a strong tower where the righteous people run into and save. All we need to do is to believe and honour the name – it works wonders!
